The requirements serve as a base for the architecture of the N_O_conf monitoring environment which is presented in this thesis. Thereby we investigate their drawbacks and define requirements for the Nagios OS autoconfigurator which are based on the shortcomings of contemporary cloud monitoring solutions. We present an evaluation of several cloud monitoring systems which are currently available on the market. In this thesis we introduce “Nagios OS autoconfigurator” (N_O_conf) - a Nagios based monitoring system for OpenStack cloud computing environments which is able to automatically adapt its monitoring behavior to changes in the cloud environment. Classical monitoring systems fail to adapt to these dynamic changes in monitored entities. Due to virtualization, cloud users are able to change the computing environments that they utilize in a dynamic way. One main reason for this is the elastic nature of cloud infrastructures. Although the importance of monitoring can not be underestimated, conventional monitoring systems fail to adequately observe quality of cloud computing systems. Therefore monitoring the quality of cloud computing systems becomes more and more important. ![]() ![]() Like in the utility services industry consumers tend to have high expectations on service quality, reliability and availability. As more and more consumers use cloud computing, cloud computing itself is transformed into an utility service like electricity, gas or water.
